looking into Datasite alternatives after one too many client complaints about pricing

by Deal_me_in_784 · Mar 18, 2026

Been working in M&A for a while now and over the past year I’ve noticed a clear shift that more clients are pushing back on Datasite, mostly around pricing and the feeling that they’re paying for features they never actually use on smaller deals. It’s frustrating when the final invoice looks nothing like the initial estimate. Usually it comes up mid-process when someone on the buy-side team starts asking why we’re not using something lighter. Honestly don’t always have a great answer ready. ...

Best Virtual Data Room software? Real user opinions only pls..

by One_Title_6837 · Dec 1, 2025

For the longest time I genuinely thought a 'Virtual Data Room' was like one of those Gather-styled online rooms where your tiny avatars walk around nd exchange files politely. Just kidding, it’s obviously more serious, and now I actually need one. Been checking out reddit and G2 reviews and I keep seeing iDeals, Datasite, Firmex, Intralinks, etc,... But before I go ahead with any, I need your personal recommendations or warnings??[](https://www.reddit.com/submit/?source_id=t3_1pbgas9)

What is Deal Preparation?

# What is Deal Preparation? >***What is deal preparation?*** *Deal preparation, or “deal prep,” prepares organizations for the due diligence phase of a transaction. It’s an external collaboration between the organization and its service providers—e.g., the selling organization and its investment bankers. The parties work together to gather, prepare, and verify the required business and financial documents.* https://preview.redd.it/nl5ykvb7my8d1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp...

Datasite, or Virtual Data Room?

by memorablenuts · Jan 9, 2024

There are several cloud services that allow you to upload files and control access, with document watermarking. Intralinks, Onehub, Sharevault, and Ansarada all offer these services, but they're super expensive. I just need to be able to control documents for a local nonprofit that deals with some sensitive information. I'd like to control access to folders by user, see when a user has accessed a file, and watermark .pdf files with the user's email address. Is this something the self-hosting...

What is good ship for running those datasites with npc?

by Schellcunn · Nov 28, 2019

What ship can survive the npc on data/relic sites and get the items inside? Or survive the explosion on ghost sites? Trying out solo exploration but keep getting killed by these random npc spawns or explosions.

I keep getting rekt by the npc ships, especially the medium size ones. And can't clear the sites well. What kind of fits I should try or what ships? Would prefer medium sized ships since I do t have much invested in offensive skills. Mostly drones and medium hybrid turrets/lasers

Cons: Some advanced features take time to learn. New users may need guidance for permissions, indexing, and reporting.

Some advanced features take time to learn, especially for first-time users. The platform is powerful, but new users may need guidance to fully understand permissions, indexing, and reporting. A simpler onboarding flow would help.

Best Online VDR - Senior Associate Review

by Eric M. · Jun 10, 2025

Pros: Incredibly practical, very fast. Prime choice for most transactions. Easy to upload, very secure. Easy to implement and integrate.

I work in the diligence space and have access to multiple datarooms from 100+ transactions that I do throughout the year. Between my peers and I, Datasite is widely considered the best online VDR. It's incredibly practical, very fast, and is typically the prime choice of VDR for most of the transactions that I'm on annually. Uploading information is very easy, the software is very secure, and I've never honestly had an issue that I've needed to reach out to customer support for. Overall, very sa...

Pricing Concern - Legacy Pricing Model

by Verified User in Investment Banking · Jun 5, 2025

Pros: Strong VDR platform.
Cons: Pricing based on page count and special media. New entrants offer flat subscription pricing.

The only con to Datasite is pricing. The legacy providers continue to charge based on page count and special media, while new entrants are offering a flat subscription price based on storage needs.

Tailored Permissions and Redaction Tool

by Joshua N. · Jan 20, 2025

Pros: Tailored permissions for different user groups. Redaction tool keeps data private. Much easier than manual download/edit/reupload workflow.

Datasite allows permissions to be tailored specifically to different user groups, which is very helpful for revealing different data to different parties. The redaction tool helps me keep data private from parties who are not privy to certain information. Much easier than downloading data, deleting information, then re-uploading and replacing.
